Is it a scam? | Giffgaff

Is it worth it?

Thank you and welcome to my first review! I will be reviewing the new mobile phone network GiffGaff that has seemingly sprung up recently.

GiffGaff is a sim only phone network provider. What does this mean to you? If your phone is unlocked, you can simply pop their sim card in and start using it! This is good news on people who are lucky enough to have unlocked phones (I bought and use a cheap one from ebay, suits me) but if you are unlucky enough not to have one, Giffgaff offer a service called Unlockpedia that helps you get under way to unlocking your phone! So enough of the waffle, here’s the question you’ve been waiting for:

So is GiffGaff a scam?

Nope. Not at all. Giffgaff offers mostly cheaper prices than other networks and don’t bog you down with 24-month contracts, hidden terms and conditions and stuff. It’s finally a mobile phone network provider that doesn’t bog you down with silly hidden charges and hundreds of tarrifs. They have one set tarrif that is cheap, reliable and not over the top. The real thing that makes them stand out is their unique system of GiffGaff goodybags.

What are giffgaff goodybags? Miniature sized packages that let you choose how you want to use your phone. Want to text? Top up £5 and you can choose the unlimited texts goodybag and receive unlimited texts with your top up. Maybe you love to surf the internet, so topping up £10 will get you unlimited internet, unlimited texts, unlimited giffgaff to giffgaff calls and 200 minutes. I’m not trying to sound like a salesmen, but compare these prices to other providers.

So far giffgaffs coverage seems to be better than my o2 coverage. I’m guessing this will depend on where you live but I’ve managed to get a good signal from everywhere I’ve been so far. The only problem I’ve had is that giffgaff doesn’t like to send me delivery reports, though this may just be my phone, it really is a small annoyance.

The overall giffgaff community is very helpful and helping out on the community can earn you points. These points are for giffgaffs payback system, where you can refer people to their service and they will literally pay you money. They allow you to either use the money as credit for your phone, paypal (over £10 only) and donate to charity. This system can be effective if you have a few friends and feel like getting something extra out of your network. The only downside is that giffgaff only pays out twice a year. So don’t be expecting a monthly income from this.

Conclusion

Giffgaff is NOT a scam. Is giffgaff any good? Heck yes! Infact, it’s a very good network provider for your phone. It looks like I’ll be using them for my primary provider at the moment. Feel free to order a sim straight to your door by clicking here, it’ll be worth it! Get giffgaff today!

hey i ordered a sim last week and it came. i agree that its good deal but the coverage is bad here

    • chumm says:

Coverage may very from where you live but I live in a small-ish village and usually get bad coverage from most networks, but I tend to get full bars with Giffgaff.

I'm guessing it's just pot luck.

  • Giff Gaff says:

"So far giffgaffs coverage seems to be better than my o2 coverage"

Now that is truly remarkable as GiffGaff are part of Telefonica/O2 and use the same network as O2.

    • chumm says:

That was the weird thing about it, my old nokia is unlocked and I was previously using o2 but got very bad signal in my house, yet when I switched to Giffgaff it improved considerably despite using the same network.

  • Alex says:

When you top up £10 say and you get unlimited texts and web and 250 mins do they take the £10 away?

    • chumm says:

Yes, they take £10 from your card/however you pay.

You can either purchase a goodybag which is like a 1-month contract deal
      or
Top up as normal and use their own rates.

You can buy the goodybag direct from them, I often buy the £10 one myself for unlimited internet.
